Area teams need weather to cooperate

Posted

Cold and wet weather again forced some cancellations in the past week. After a nice weekend, the forecast includes more chances at rain next week.

Schedules have been and are likely to continue changing. If you’re a fan and don’t have an athlete participating to keep you in the loop, check the individual school calendars online, or conference schedules at www.packerlandconference.org/ and www.northeasternconferencewi.org/.

Here are the links to the school calendars:

Here’s what we did get in the past week.

Softball

Algoma opened the season with losses at home against Seymour Thursday, April 3, 7-4, and at Chilton Friday, 3-2.

Macie Zimmerman struck out 13 but walked six and gave up 10 hits against Seymour. She gave up only six hits and no earned runs while walking one and striking out seven at Chilton.

The Wolves got a double from Nora Krause against the Thunder, but only two other hits, one by Zimmerman and one by Brooke Mattson. Zimmerman scored on a sacrifice bunt by Natalie Ray against Chilton. Ray scored in the seventh on a groundout by Madison Schneider to tie it, but two errors in the bottom of the seventh were too much to overcome.

Luxemburg-Casco hosted Oconto Falls in a N.E. Conference opener on Thursday and won 2-1. Oconto Falls tied the game 1-1 in the top of the sixth inning, but the Spartans reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the inning as Riley Westlund got on base on an error and scored on a passed ball for the eventual winning run.

On Friday, the New Holstein girls softball team played at L-C, where the Spartans won 11-1. Kate Van Ess pitched and gave up one unearned run on three hits and no walks, while striking out five Huskie hitters. Van Ess also had a two RBI single in the third inning. Rylan Kaminski had three singles and scored three runs in the five-inning game.

Baseball

Algoma lost to Green Bay Preble on the turf at Green Bay Southwest Saturday, 10-0. The Wolves went hitless. Charlie Prokash took the loss, going 2-1/3 innings, surrendering four runs (one earned) on three hits. He struck out two and walked four.
Soccer

Luxemburg-Casco beat Sturgeon Bay 1-0 last week on a goal by Emi Kuhn, then dropped a pair to Green Bay East 2-1 and Ashwaubenon 3-1. Monroe Schaenhofer scored vs. East and Casidee Jacobson the goal vs. Ashwaubenon.
