L-C volleyball fifth in Triton Classic

Luxemburg-Casco’s volleyball team finished fifth in the Triton Classic at Notre Dame Academy Saturday, sandwiching a pair of victories over the hosts and De Pere with losses to Kimberly and West De Pere.

The Spartans beat Notre Dame 25-18 and 25-9 before losing to Kimberly (21-25 and 17-25) and West De Pere (25-17, 18-25, 13-15). L-C finished the day with a 23-25, 25-17, 15-12 win over De Pere.

Claire Schleis had 57 assists, 20 kills and 20 digs; Stella Schleis 41 assists, 12 digs and seven aces; Aubrey Frey 66 kills, 25 digs and 10 aces; and Jenna Annoye 55 digs.

Two days earlier, L-C swept Wrightstown 25-17, 25-19, 26-24. Claire had 11 assists, seven kills, and 10 digs; Stella eight assists and eight digs; Frey 16 kills, eight digs and two aces; and Annoye 18 digs.

Meanwhile, Algoma fell to NEW Lutheran in the Wolves’ home opener last Thursday, 15-25, 15-25 and 16-25. Lauren Loucks had five kills, five blocks and three digs; Bristol Schmidt four kills and a block; Sadie Rikkola 14 digs, 14 receptions and two kills; and Eva Liu nine receptions and three digs.

On Tuesday, Algoma lost at Sevastopol in straight sets, 24-26, 17-25 and 16-25. Rikkola had 18 receptions, 13 digs and six kills; Liu 15 digs and 21 receptions; Natalie Ray six kills, nine receptions and nine digs; and Mackenzie Lischka 12 assists and four digs.

Finally, Kewaunee lost at Gibraltar last Thursday, 23-25, 25-23, 11-25, 19-25.

More sports

Spartans’ Claire DuChateau and Ezra Treml won their respective girls’ and boys’ runs in the small school division at a cross country invitational hosted by De Pere at UW-Green Bay last Thursday.

DuChateau finished in 18:56, 20 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor, while Treml blazed to first with a time of 16:15.

Algoma’s Ellie Reif placed 46th for the girls in 23:27, a personal best, and Brayden Brumm was 101st with a season-best 24:42 for the boys.

Meanwhile, in an invitational at Green Bay Preble the same day, Kewaunee’s Natalie Miller placed 10th in 23:02 and Milli Paul was 19th in 24:05. On the boys’ side, Gage Vlies was 38th in 21:36.

In golf, Luxemburg-Casco’s girls placed second in a triangular last Thursday, four strokes behind host Marinette. Brielle Snowberry placed third with a score of 43. Teammates Reese Bandow (45) and Averi Buresh (48) took the next two spots.

In soccer, Algoma and Luxemburg-Casco each blanked Kewaunee in the past week. Elvin Mendoza and Trevor Hunsaker each had a pair of goals for the Spartans. L-C got shut out by Freedom Tuesday but earlier beat Clintonville 2-1. Wilmer Castellanos and Connor Hart scored the goals.
